Christmas Gift Guide-Teachers

Do you buy your children’s teachers, coaches and carers Christmas gifts? As a teacher myself i know how meaningful it is to receive a small gesture at the end of each year thanking me for the effort i put in (not just inside paid school hours but most evenings, weekends and holidays too). But what should you give to the person who looks after your most precious gift?

I hope this guide helps inspire you.

A heart-felt thank you letter

This is my absolute favourite gift to receive! I’m pretty sure every single teacher out there has a box of kept notes from children over the years. I actually display some of them in my office cupboards so when i am marking or planning and i open the cupboards to access my books and resources i see a bunch of little notes blu-taced to the shelves. Its a real reminder that i am not just doing it because it’s my job, i am doing it because it impacts a child’s life! If you have an older child help them draft a letter and if you have a younger one record a video or dictate their words and attach a photo of them on the front. I promise, it will be treasured! It’s free and will teach your child about reflection and gratitude.

Coffee gift card

This is my favourite gift each year! Not just because i love coffee, but because there is also the option to use it for other drinks or food so you don’t have to know the recipient all that well to give something you know will get used! Also a $5 gift card goes a long way so its a very economical option!

Whiteboard markers

These are my second favourite gift! seems random but the amount of their own money teachers spend on these things each year would blow your mind! I love these ones because they are magnetic and stick to my board. The kids love it when i colour code instructions and having 8 colours in 4 pens is really handy!

One for the mums with a sense of humour

This colouring book is so funny and accurate! I love it! Such a unique little gift that wont break the budget but will have your child’s teacher in hysterics.

Breaky on the go cup

This is actually genius!!!! I’m going to buy myself one! Teachers often have early morning clubs or duties which mean we eat at work. This would come in so handy! cereal and milk, yoghurt and fruit, milk and protein powder…. so many ways to use it! Such a unique gift and something that would be used each and every day!

Personalised candle

Ditch the generic candle gifts and give one with a personalised message, nice quote or picture of your child. No link for this one as i encourage you all to shop local for things like candles as there are so many small businesses out there! If you want some recommendations for Perth small businesses hit me up on Instagram.

Personalised chocolates

This year we are gifting Maisie’s daycare carers some personalised ChocoLab chocolate bars along with some coffee gift cards. There is no doubt they will need both the sugar hit as well as the caffeine to keep up with our little energiser bunny!

Beeswax paper

I got this as a gift one year and i thought it was such a good idea! Not only are beeswax wraps cute, they help the environment by reducing daily plastic use.

Make it a funny mug

I know lots of teachers who do not love receiving coffee cups as gifts (super popular gift idea). I personally love it as i go through at least 6 mugs per school day and leave them all over the school. My students know this about me so they always buy me mugs which i love! My faves are always the funny ones!

Beautiful books with spaces for students to fill out!

A Notebook to give as an appreciation gift to your teacher. Say why they matter to you most! Write, draw, doodle or glue a photo following each prompt. One prompt per page. A unique gift for the best teacher!

Whole class gift

If your child is in early learning the chances are you’re friendly with at least some of the other mums. One pooled gift can be a lot more special compared with lots of smaller ones. I’ve gotten some beautiful things in the past such as Myer gift cards, Hotel stays and jewellery.

Personalised stamp

Change the hair, colour and wording of this to match your child’s teacher! So cute… and practical!

Handy Sani

It’s a brave new world we are living in, especially for teachers. I can’t count the number of times my sanitiser went walk about from my classroom! Id love one of these to clip to my self!

Funny wine glass

I’m personally not a fan of getting wine as a gift from students, simply because i don’t drink alcohol. However, i’d love this glass! its so funny and the recipient can use it for any drink they like! They would probably have to fight people off it in the staffroom!

Unique book

This will be the most popular gift in the staffroom i promise you! I don’t know a single teacher who doesn’t have a secret stash of their funniest student errors in their camera role. It’s the only thing that keeps me going sometimes! This book is full of pearlers!

Post it holder

I can’t be the only teacher who goes through a pack of post-it’s a week? How cute is this!

Hand crafted marshmallows

We couldn’t forget the office girls from Maisie’s daycare. These festive Cloud Theory marshmallows will be such a unique little gift for them! Each flavour is has a different christmassy taste guaranteed to bring some nostalgic holiday vibes in the office.

Planner

Whether they teach toddlers or year 12’s chances are your child’s teacher buys themselves one of these bad boys at the beginning of each school year. Save them the hassle, it would make a lovely and useful gift!

Not just a pen

Perfect gift for a teacher in today’s world where we don’t know if we will be teaching in person or remotely next year! This pen is a ballpoint pen, stylus and torch all in one! How cool!

Punny Stickers

Teachers are dorks… we love a good pun. In fact, i actually have a whole bulletin board in my classroom dedicated to puns and memes! Another thing about teacher is we spend a lot of our own money on stickers every year. I teach in the High School but my students still constantly ask for a sticker. These pun inspired ones are just too cute!

Retractable lanyard

So pretty and so practical! Perfect for classroom swipe cards or keys! I’ll never forget my key to the staff toilet again!

A sentimental hand made pot

Not only a cute teacher gift but something fun for the kids to create!

Gift box

If you don’t have the time to make your own head over to The Teaching Collective who has done all the hard work for you!
